ABOUT

LIVIND project worked to recognise practical ways living heritage can support sustainable development

People are sitting on chairs forming a circle and discuss the cards that are placed on the floor.

Deepening cooperation across distances

Focusing on the northern parts of Europe, LIVIND brought together both national and grass-root level experts and active persons. The LIVIND project was the first project in this scale in the field of intangible cultural heritage in Northern Europe.
The project area referred to the geographical scope of the Northern Dimension Region* and thus strengthened cooperation among different actors from the nine countries: the Nordic countries including the autonomous areas, the Sámi area, the Baltic countries, and Poland.

Based on international development

LIVIND built on the many years of extensive international cooperation. Countries that participated the project have all ratified the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage that obligates to recognise and safeguard living heritage through community-based ways. Further cornerstones of the project include the Faro Convention underlining the value of heritage for society and the UN Agenda 2030 with the SDGs, the Sustainable Development Goals.

The power of virtual group work

The project made use of diverse web-based tools to support fluent exchange and increase co-development work. Virtual workshops and platforms were used to collect and share ideas between the diverse actors, including public bodies and NGOs from the different countries and areas. The series of webinars that also invited participants to workshop activities proved to be popular and involved people from numerous European countries and even beyond!
